How to Choose the Right Glue Sticks
When selecting sticks, always match them to the technical specifications of your glue gun.
- Size: The diameter and length must match your tool. The most common diameter is 11 mm.
- Color: Match the stick color to the material to hide the seam.
- Melting Point: Ensure the glue’s melting point does not exceed the maximum operating temperature of your glue gun.
Recommendations for Use
- Preparation: Before bonding, clean the working surface of dirt and dust. Allow the glue sticks to heat up to the optimal temperature within the gun’s chamber.
- Quantity: Use the correct amount of adhesive. Too little leads to a weak bond; too much results in a messy, visible seam.
- Large Surfaces: If bonding a large area, choose a stick with a high melt rate to prevent the first beads of glue from hardening before you finish. Hot glue typically sets in about 2 minutes, reaching full cure after 10 minutes.
- Temperature Control: Do not exceed the recommended operating temperature. Ensure the materials being bonded are at a temperature above 15°C. If the material is too cold, the glue will “shock” and cool too quickly, leading to poor wetting and a weak bond.
